Showing Gratitude To Your Nanny

Don’t wait for a special day to convey how much you care

Nannies are typically there every day, ready to help you and your children with anything you need for the day. Nannies are there to make sure everyone is fed, dressed, playing, and meeting their developmental goals.

Although our friends and family might know we love them, I think many of us often get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget to express how grateful we are for our nanny.

Showing gratitude for others seems to be something that happens less and less in today’s busy world between running kids to and from appointments and activities, juggling work and duties around your home, and trying to keep up with your daily responsibilities.

It can be easy to forget to make the time to show sincere gratitude for the person that is caring for your children, so we wanted to take this time to think about all the things nannies do daily to support families.

HOW TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR YOUR NANNY

1. SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION

Letting someone know how grateful and appreciative you are doesn't take much and giving your nanny a genuine compliment or offering positive feedback can change the trajectory of someone’s day. After-all your nanny is offering her love and affection on a daily basis so don’t forget to add to the pot!  A happy and positive work environment makes for a happy nanny so try it out, in the morning leave a note for your nanny by the coffee pot to let them know you couldn’t do it without them!

2. GIFT HER SOME R&R

A morning to sleep in,  afternoon off or a day to reboot and take some time for themselves is a thoughtful gift that you can give your nanny to show her how much you care.

3. MAKING TIME TO CONNECT

Communicate, communicate, communicate.  I can’t say it enough! Giving others our full attention and presence when we are with them is one of the greatest gifts we can give. It shows that we respect and care for them enough to give them our undivided attention and as we take a deeper look at the Nanny/Family relationship sitting down for those quarterly chats are so valuable.  For more information on how to execute a successful review...

4. GIVE HER A GIFT

A thoughtful gift is another way to show your nanny appreciation.  A cash bonus, plane ticket somewhere special, spa day, gift basket, gift card to her favorite restaurant or even a handmade card from the kids with a special piece of jewelry are all ways to show your love.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF SHOWING YOUR NANNY APPRECIATION?

Having a great professional relationship with your nanny is imperative.

The best ways to maintain a great relationship with your nanny is to have open, honest communication and to show your nanny appreciation for what they do daily to support your family. This is important not only during Nanny Appreciation Week, but throughout the whole year.

Not only will your nanny be happier when you show gratitude but it will ultimately teach your child how to treat others.  In other words, positive role modeling kindness and compassion to others will teach your kids how to be in this world.

Telling your child to be caring, generous, kind, respectful is one thing but actually showing them how you do it is much more powerful!
