MEET NANNY: ILIA
On-Call - Bay Area
I was born in the sunny Caribbean where I learned to love the mountains, the rivers, and the beaches, where I learned to love learning and reading, where I learned to love music, dance, poetry, and literature, and where I learned to use these resources to express myself creatively.
It was in the beautiful Caribbean that I started working with the youngest members of our society, exploring science, flora, fauna, nature, art, music, poetry, and theater. This ignited a great love for working with young minds, families, and communities for me. That love brought me to the Bay Area for a summer, working again with our youngest citizens exploring nature, science, history, art, literature, theater, and music.
After returning home to continue my education I decided to go back to the Bay Area to pursue professional opportunities doing one of the things I love most, exploring this beautiful World of ours alongside young minds full of life, love, and wonder. A teacher, nanny, musician, dancer, poet, artist, committed community member a lover of all things creative, and a lifelong learner, I am doing my best to keep pursuing my professional, creative, and personal goals, to continue growing and learning and become a better version of myself every day!

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY
I believe... That "the child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred thoughts, a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking. A hundred, always a hundred ways of listening, of marveling, of loving, a hundred joys for singing and understanding, a hundred worlds to discover, a hundred worlds to invent, a hundred worlds to dream. The child has a hundred languages (and a hundred hundred hundred more)..." (Loris Malaguzzi)
I believe... That children are capable of everything they set their minds to achieving and that we should support and encourage them, keep them safe and healthy, and be there for them in a loving, respectful, and meaningful way through their beautiful path of growth and development.
I believe... In working collaboratively with families to create the best environment for the young humans who are the future of this beautiful world of ours, through efficient and honest communication, strong synergy, and unconditional love and respect
WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?
After various years and a diverse range of experiences working with children, as a summer camp leader, after-school program leader and coordinator, zoo, and science museum tour guide, teacher, sitter, and nanny it is clear to me that working with the youngest members of our society is my calling. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of these experiences, however, there's something magical about working hand in hand with a family and becoming an honorary member of their clan, being thousands of miles away from my own family, connecting in this way has been not only professionally, yet also personally and emotionally relevant for me. The profound bond between children, families, and caretakers has the potential to become a powerful symbiosis and a great opportunity to work together, learn from each other, and grow again professionally and personally. Working with a smaller number of children than one does when working as a teacher is also a great opportunity to truly focus on exploring together this young person's interests, skills, and passions and to better support them in their journey. I am also in it for the joy and unconditional love, the contagious sense of wonder and curiosity and enthusiasm for life that children are so capable of and that I have discovered I can't do without!
PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:
I've always been described as having a bubbly personality, I love to smile and laugh and I do my best to be polite and friendly to everyone I encounter in my way. I am generous, nurturing, and loving, I am also quite organized and responsible and tend to be viewed as the mom among my groups of friends I like finding different ways to express myself creatively through music, movement, dance, poetry, and art. I believe in respect, equity, fairness, and kindness. I am a lifelong learner and a hard-working individual. I cherish and greatly value communication and I always attempt to be honest and clear in communicating with others. I believe in giving my best in every situation personal and professional and I take pride in being open to constructive criticism and in growing and becoming a better version of myself through every professional, creative, and personal experience I am fortunate enough to have in my life!
