THEIR GENUINE NANNY
Meet Our Lily Family!
We’re looking for a friendly, energetic, and highly organized Aftercare Support/Family Assistant to join our small family in San Leandro. Our family consists of a solo mama and her 7-year-old son, Vaughn, who is active, playful, and loves to engage with new people. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who enjoys outdoor play, creative activities, and providing a calm, structured environment.
About the Role:
You’ll be joining our family in the afternoon, starting at 1:30 PM, and meeting Vaughn at the bus when it arrives at 2:00 PM. From there, you’ll spend the rest of the afternoon supporting Vaughn’s after-school routine, which includes providing a light, healthy snack, helping with transitions to various activities (like capoeira, flag football, the park, or the library), and supporting him with homework (if needed).
We’re also looking for someone who is comfortable with driving Vaughn to and from after-school activities, and occasionally picking him up from school if he misses the bus. You’ll have some flexibility in the timing of the hours (2:00 PM to 6:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM), so we are happy to discuss what works best.
In addition to child care, the role will include light household duties related to Vaughn, such as preparing his dinner, making his lunch for the next day, doing his laundry, and tidying up shared spaces after playtime or meals.
Who You Are:
You’re a creative, patient, and kind caregiver with the ability to handle a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable after-school routine. Vaughn thrives with structure, but we also need someone who can adapt to his individual needs—particularly around transitions. He can get frustrated during transitions, such as moving from one activity to the next, and will need a caregiver who is calm, patient, and able to support him through these moments. Experience with children who have executive function or self-regulation challenges is highly preferred.
You’re also reliable, organized, and love to create fun, engaging activities for a curious, talkative 7-year-old. Whether it’s helping him with homework, setting up for play, or just being a steady presence after a busy school day, you’ll be an important part of his afternoons.
A Little About Vaughn:
He’s a very smart and talkative 7-year-old who enjoys outdoor play and engaging with others.
Vaughn struggles with executive function and self-regulation, which can sometimes make transitions challenging. He may experience frustration or have outbursts when moving from one activity to another (e.g., TV to bath, bus to homework). This requires patience and a calm, understanding approach.
He enjoys creative activities and would thrive with a nanny who can help him engage in both structured and free-play activities.
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance are required (booster seat provided)
Experience working with children, especially those who need support with self-regulation and executive function skills
Comfortable with light housekeeping duties, particularly related to Vaughn’s needs
Ability to stay calm and patient in moments of frustration or tantrums
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a busy, hybrid-working parent
CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
A love for outdoor activities and fun, educational play
Additional Details:
We are looking for a long-term commitment (1+ year), and we’d love to find someone who can become an integral part of our family.
The nanny selected will need to register as an employee of Manos (a contract company for the Regional Center of the East Bay). This includes an application process, fingerprinting, and CPR certification. There is also 2.5 hours of paid training that must be completed.
We’re open to all qualified applicants, including male nannies!
Qualifications:
Experience with children on the autism spectrum is preferred
Previous experience with school-age children
Ability to engage in creative play and provide a structured, nurturing environment
Comfortable with cooking for our son and, ideally, the family
Willingness to take our son to appointments, therapy, and outings (museums, parks, etc.)
Calm, patient, and proactive demeanor
Valid driver’s license and ability to use our family car
Comfortable with light housekeeping related to the child (laundry, meal prep, tidying up)
Additional Details:
Full-time position (50-55 hours per week)
Competitive pay of $35-40+ per hour, plus benefits
We offer both live-out and live-in options for the right candidate
Long-term commitment (1+ year preferred)
We’d love to hear from you if you’re a warm, experienced caregiver who enjoys creating a positive, structured environment for children with special needs. If you think you’d be a good fit, please reach out and let us know how you can contribute to our family!
