THEIR GENUINE NANNY
Meet Our Sunflower Family!
Our unique Sunflower family has 3 children ages 13, 11, and 7 years old, and live in the quaint town of San Anselmo Ca. Mom has the children on an alternating schedule and is looking for care for her 11-year-old son who has special needs. Her two other children will need occasional support as well but primary care is for her son.
They can offer a live-in space for the right candidate/candidates. They have a private two-bedroom cottage with a bathroom, kitchen, and private access. They have a beautiful spacious home and backyard oasis!
Please see the full post for more details about the position…
We thought a letter from our mom would encapsulate their needs best:
Hello! I'm looking for someone reliable, kind, and compassionate to help care for my 11 year old son. He's a sweet-natured kid who loves to take walks, kick a soccer ball, hang around with his sisters, laugh, and give hugs. He needs assistance with most things, including walking, diapering, feeding, bathing, and general merry-making. He weighs about 65 lbs., so the job can be somewhat physical.
The most important thing to me is his quality of life (i.e., helping him experience joy on a daily basis). Though he has several therapies that we'd engage with you to learn and perform (PT, OT, feeding, some basic sign language, etc.) I'm really looking for someone who will make a deep connection with him and prioritize his delight. This would include daily trips to the local park and eventually local adventures exploring the area (e.g., the beach, the zoo, etc.). Please be a safe and experienced driver.
My son is a very warm and affectionate kiddo who loves to hug and cuddle and though he's non-verbal, we all forget about that because he communicates in so many other ways. He's a joy to be around and everyone in the neighborhood says hello and celebrates him on his daily walks. He does require assistance with most everything and I'd teach you how to be with him. He especially loves walking around holding someone's hand for support.
I'm looking for someone affectionate and warm and who can take initiative and help think of fun activities and adventures to take him on. Please also be someone willing to help out around the house with chores associated with Moses' care like some meal prep, laundry, food shopping, and general tidying.
About us: I am a divorced mom and I have 3 kids. My other daughters are ages 7 and 13. I have all 3 kids 50% of the time and the other 50% they are with their other parent. This opportunity would just be for when the kids are with me. The kids always stay together. Though care would primarily be for my son, his sisters adore him and love to do activities and meals all together. I identify as queer and have a long-term female partner. I am an attorney for Meta (aka Facebook) and I work mostly from home.
We are a Jewish family and celebrate holidays such as Passover (we often host a large community meal for friends and family), Sukkot (we build a Sukkah in the yard), and have a Shabbat meal on Fridays when we can. Generally, we are a social family and love to host meals with friends and have an active social/community life that we invite you to be a part of.
Schedule: Since I only have my son 50%, the schedule will be a bit unique and you will have 3 or 4 days off every week (with at least 2 days off in a row, one being a weekend day). There will be a set schedule for caring for my son though, I'm looking for someone who can be flexible on the days I have him if he is sick and is home from school. Summertime is also a longer work day since he is mostly out of school.
Living quarters: I have an in-law unit that has its own entrance with a nice-sized bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. On the days you are caring for him, you'd have access to the entire house, and on the days you have off, you'd have your separate space.

- The family is looking for someone who can make a long-term commitment with a minimum 2-3 year commitment. They think of this person or persons as a part of the family.
