MEET NANNY: EMMA

Full-Time - Peninsula & San Francisco

I am an experienced early childhood educator who has transitioned into professional nannying to better meet each child’s unique developmental needs. I am passionate about play-based, strength-based, and screen-free childcare. My approach blends my depth of knowledge in child development, positive psychology, and trauma-informed practices to support whole-child growth. I incorporate Montessori and Reggio Emilia principles, focusing on constructivist, child-centered learning, and emotional co-regulation. I am a confident driver with a spotless record, and I enjoy daily outings and spending time in nature with children. As a native English speaker, I promote joyful language acquisition through dialogic storytimes and environment narration.

MY BELIEFS AS A GENUINE NANNY

I believe... play is the work of children.

I believe... attuned, responsive relationships and positive experiences build resilience and lay the foundation for human flourishing.

I believe... children are people in their own right, deserving of equality and respect.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A NANNY?

It brings me so much joy to support a young child's development and witness their growth. I delight in carefully observing and listening to children so I can better understand their inner world. Understanding a child's perspective, preferences, and personality allows me to provide them with joyful, enriching experiences. It brings me a great sense of fulfillment to demonstrate to children that they are always seen, heard, and safe.

While being a teacher provides me wonderful opportunities to catch glimpses of what makes each child "tick" in a large group, it simply does not compare to the relationship that is cultivated with a child through nannying. Nannying allows me to dive deeper into a child's holistic profile and truly dedicate the proper time and energy needed to fully attune to their unique personhood. I thrive knowing that I can be an additional stable, loving presence in their existing network of support. It is also incredibly rewarding to know that my childcare can give parents the ability to continue pursuing their own passions and careers.

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY, STRENGTHS,
WORK ETHIC, AND VALUES:

While I take the responsibility of childcare incredibly seriously, I try not to take myself too seriously, and enjoy the natural silliness and humor inherent to working with young children. In addition to the 3 adjectives I listed above, my top strengths are patience, problem-solving, and attention to detail. One of the reasons I enjoy nannying so much is because it allows me to combine all of my strengths on a daily basis, and aligns with my natural preferences for 1:1 connection. I have a strong work ethic that encompasses thoroughness, dependability, and lifelong learning. Children are especially vulnerable and absorbent in early childhood, and I feel honored when a family entrusts their child to my care and welcomes me into their home.

I am thorough and dependable by nature, but I also make an active effort to embody those qualities because I feel I owe it to the children I work with to treat their lives with the utmost respect. However, I recognize nobody is perfect, and that there will always be new things for me to learn to better meet the needs of the children I work with. I embrace this perpetual opportunity for growth with eagerness and positivity, and enjoy modeling it for children. I am able to maintain my strong work ethic because I understand my own boundaries and limits. I ensure I only take on responsibilities that are sustainable for my work/life balance and where I am confident in delivering quality results for my nanny family. I take good care of myself so that I can be fully present and attentive for the children I work with.

My values are grounded in curiosity, integrity, and human flourishing. Curiosity allows me to accept the present moment and explore all it has to offer. This helps me to personally thrive through introspection and embodied awareness, and helps me to approach children with a compassionate mindset. Integrity allows me to consistently adhere to my moral and ethical principles. This helps me to stay true to myself, as well as protect and defend the rights of the children. Valuing human flourishing allows me to better navigate my decisions and priorities in life. This clarity affords me a consistent emotional stability in life, which not only benefits my well-being, but also the well-being of the children I care for.
